(English below)

Dagarna är helt underbara och lunkar på i lagom takt men om man ska skriva om dem så går de lite för fort fram ;-)

Vid stället Lake Villa där vi hyrde i Tissaharama fanns det en ko och dennes trogne kompis, en vit fågel, som gick och betade. Naturligtvis(!) var jag tvungen att prata lite med kossan vilket visade sig vara en tjur. Jag frågade om det var riskfritt att gå fram och det var det. Efter några dagar dök det upp ännu en ko men som gick runt och brölade vilket den första inte gjorde. Den är den som hörs på filmen för vår sista dag men när jag gick ner för frukost denna sista dag så var bägge borta.

Jag frågade frukostservitören vart de var men då sa han att de var inte deras och de heller inte visste vem som ägde dem och den första kon (tjuren) hade "checkat in" samma dag som vi anlände! Jaja, alla kor (och tjurar) verkar ju extremt lungna och ointresserade av vad som händer runt i kring dem (som tutande lastbilar och tuk-tuk) så det var väl därför de ansåg att det även var helt lugnt att klappa dem. Efter ett dopp i poolen  och frukost i skuggan av ett träd där brevid, åkte vi vidare mot Arugam Bay.

Nu har jag också sett att det faktiskt finns två stora skyltar vid vägen som visar till detta boende (och ett gäng apor i buskarna)    så är det någon som funderar på att åka till Tissaharama så kan jag meddela att detta är ett fantastiskt ställe och bättre service och support för exempelvis Safari, resa in till city eller transporter till nästa ort (eller från flygplatsen och hit) går inte att finna! Och ett underbart ställe att vara på med pool och allt. Fem stjärnor av fem möjliga.

Chauffören var urtrevlig vilket jag nu har börjat förstå är gemensamt för hela befolkningen i Sri Lanka   .

Efter några mil passerade vi någon zon för Yala Nationalpark där djuren tydligen gick över lite då och då. Det var flera fordon som hade stannat eftersom det stod den största elefant jag någon sin sett, mitt på vägen . Men vår chaufför... han sakta bara in lite och sedan körde han förbi framför snabeln.

Safarin var en fantastisk upplevelse men det här nästan bättre (eftersom vi även överlevde).

Efter flera timmar och med ständigt vackra vyer och områden, så kom vi fram till Arugam Bay. Denna gång ville tjererna bo på hotell så vi hade bokat boende på Blue Wave Hotell. När vi anlände så stod ca 5 personer och tog emot. Väskorna "bara försvann" från bilen till våra rum och vi fick svala handdukar att svalka oss med och goda välkomstfruktdrinkar. Rummet var urfint, likaså poolen och servicen.

Jag tycker det är lite extra kul eftersom den här delen av Sri Lanka inte dök upp som turistort när vi sökte på internetsidor för information så istället fick vi zooma in området på Google map och se vad som var möjligt och sedan boka boende och resa dit. Några ytterst få turister (4-5 st) har vi sett här och det verkar som de var från Tyskland och/eller Holland.

Jag har dock förstått att vi lär få lång sträcka att åka tillbaka. 10 mil i Sverige tar ju ca 1-1,5 timmar men här tar det ca 3 timmar! Och vi har nu ca 33 mil till flygplatsen vilket, enligt google map, skulle ta ca 7 timmar i ett sträck. Och vi vill ju inte sitta i en bil i 7 timmar så nu försöker vi boka så vi kan ta känguruhopp med ett antal mil och övernattningar (lite bad och sol, vattenfall och kanske se mer djur) till att hinna till Bandaranaike där flygplatsen är. Det blev lite tajtare med dagar nu eftersom Sofia blev sjuk och vi därför fick stanna lite längre i Tissahamara. Vi hann därför heller inte att åka tillbaka en bit till Galle och besöka min fina vän Ashhab och hans fru och deras lilla dotter. Det hade vart kul och spännade och se hur de bor och även få gulla med en bebis.

The days are absolutely wonderful and moving at nice pace but if you have to write about them they go a little too fast. ;-)

We rented a room at Lake Villa in Tissaharama, there was a cow and his loyal friend, a white bird. Of course (!) I had to talk a little with the cow, which turned out to be a bull. I asked if it was risk-free to go ahead and it was. After a few days another cow appeared but went around and roared, which the first one didn't. It is the one that is heard on the film from our last day but when I went down for breakfast this last day so were both gone.

I asked the breakfast waiter where they were but then he said they weren't theirs and they didn't even know who owned them and the first cow (bull) had "checked in" the day we arrived! Well, all the cows (and bulls) seem extremely calm and uninterested in what was going around them (like tipping trucks and tuk-tuk) so that was why they thought it was quite calm to pet them as well. After a swim in the pool  (an old Swedish classic home video that became viral many years ago. She says "you swim out of picture) and breakfast in the shade of a tree where we went on to Arugam Bay.

Now I have also seen that there are actually two large signs along the road that show this accommodation (and a bunch of monkeys in the bushes) so if anyone thinking of going to Tissaharama I can tell that this is a fantastic place and superb service and support, for example Safari, travel into the city or transport to the next place (or from the airport and here)! And a wonderful place to be with pool and everything. Five stars out of five possible.

The driver was super friendly which I have now begun to understand is common to the entire population of Sri Lanka.    

After a few miles we passed some zone for Yala National Park where the animals apparently went over, every now and then. There were several vehicles that had stopped because it was the biggest elephant I have ever seen in the middle of the road. But our driver ... he just slowed in a bit and then he drove past right in front of the trunk. Safarin was a fantastic experience but this was almost better (because we also survived).

After several hours and with constantly beautiful views and areas, we arrived at Arugam Bay. This time the hosts wanted to stay in hotels so we had booked accommodation at Blue Wave Hotel. When we arrived there, about 5 people came and greated us. The bags "just disappeared" from the car and to our rooms and we got cold towels to cool off with and tasty welcome fruit drinks. The room was beautiful, as was the pool and the service.

I think it is a bit extra fun because this part of Sri Lanka did not appear as a tourist resort when we searched at the internet sites for information so instead we got to zoom in the area on Google map and see what was possible and then book accommodation and travel there. We have seen some very few tourists (4-5) here and it seems that they were from Germany and / or Holland.

However, I understand that we have a long distance to go back. 10 miles in Sweden takes about 1-1,5 hours but here it takes about 3 hours! And we now have about 33 miles to the airport which, according to google map, would take about 7 hours in a stretch. And we do not want to sit in a car for 7 hours so now we try to book so we can take  a number of miles and overnight stays (some bath and sun, waterfall and maybe see more animals) to catch up to Bandaranaike where the airport is. It was a little tighter with days now because Sofia got sick and we therefore we had to stay a little longer in Tissahamara. Therefore, we did not go back to Galle and visit my lovely friend Ashhab and his wife and their little daughter. It would have been fun and excited to see how they live and even get cuddle with a baby.

(Torsdag den 24/1)

Frukost serveras fram till klockan 11 och vid 10-tiden ringde de och undrade om vi ville ha frukost och det ville vi ju förstås. Förutom Sofia som haft en hemsk natt med ungefär 387 nysningar och förbrukat två toarullar för att snyta sig. Sara och jag gick ner till restaurangen men där fanns ingen frukost utan vårat bord fanns uppdukat under ett träd i närheten av vattnet! Vilket paradis!.

Det var dukat för tre men vi talade om att Sofia var sjuk så vi blev bara två. Det dukades upp en fantastisk frukost där jag inledningsvis sa till Sara att det här blir jättebra och man kanske kan tappa något kilo, frukt och färkspressad juice, men sedan kom det mer. Rostade mackor, marmelad och en hel tallrik med engelsk frukost (äggröra, bönor, korv, etc). Vi tog förstås med oss lite mackor till Sofia som låg kvar på rummet men det hade vi inte behövt göra.

De hade redan gått upp med en bricka med frukost till henne när vi satt åt.  

Sara och jag åkte, efter frukosten, in till centrum med en tuk-tuk från boendet för att köpa antibiotika till Sofia. I kön till a ffärens apotek stod en äldre karl viket visade sig vara doktorn i samhället och han frågade vad vi skulle ha och talade sedan om för apotekaren exakt vad han skulle plocka fram. Antibiotikan vi fick ut kostade ca 2,90 kr för en veckas behanding. Jag hade läst att honung och kanel i olika kombinationer skulle vara dundermedel för allt mellan himmel och jord men lyckades endast hitta honung i affären. Vår tuk-tuk-chaufför trodde dock att det fanns kanel i restaurangen vid vårt boende. När vi kom tillbaka till boendet han jag inte ens gå ner och fråga innan det knackade på dörren och en kruka mald kanel levererades till Sofia.

Under dagen grunnade jag på om det gick att bada i vattnet här utanför. Det är en massa vattenbufflar som verkar ligga där under hela dagarna och det kanske gör att vattnet inte är så rent? Samtidigt så är det folk som går ner i vattnet och föser vattenbufflarna fram och tillbaka. Senare fick jag syn på någon som låg och solade sig på en liten gräskulle och då bestämde jag mig för att inte fundera mer på den punkten.

Sara och jag tog dock en promenad för att se omgivningen. Vi klev iväg på mindre skogsvägar, tog oss förbi en stig och sedan upp på en ny skogsväg (ej körbar för bil). Både hon och jag kände lite att det kanske inte var helt tryggt med tanke på alla leoparder som med glädje skulle överfalla oss, elefanter som skulle trampa ner oss som några myror eller vattenbufflar som skulle stånga och kasta iväg oss trasiga i nått stickigt buskage. Vi vände strax men mötte då en karl på en cykel som sa att vi skulle fortsätta att gå, det fanns inga farliga djur här. Då gjorde vi det och kom senare fram till det vatten vi såg från hotellet där vattenbufflarna låg. Direkt såg vi en första vattenbuffel och den såg oss. Vi stod still, den stod still och sedan började den bestämt gå åt vårt håll. Då vände vi direkt eftersom de hornen ville vi inte ha en dust med.

(Fredag den 25/1)

I går bestämde vi oss för att boka en heldagssafari i Yala Nationalpark. Det innebar avfärd klockan 04.30 denna morgon. 

Det är en underbar service på det här stället som vi bor på. När vi kom ner mitt i natten så stod minst tre personer från boendet och de hade packat en rejäl frukost och lunch åt oss tillsammans med en frysväska med kalla drycker. Safari innebär att åka i en jeep men jag undrar varför chauffören sitter i en hytt med fönster och vi helt fritt utan någon ”hoppainskydd”? Vi tre satt ju helt utlämnade åt vårt öde som skrovmål till eventuella leoparder eller ilskna elefanter medans chauffören satt tryggt i sin hytt. Det kan komma bli trångt i den där hytten när vi  sedan också har klämt in oss där!

När vi väl kommit in i Safarin så insåg jag att våra säkerhetsbältens primära funktion inte var utifall vi skulle krocka utan snarare att vi inte skulle studsa ur sätena och göra oss illa. Vägarna var otroligt skumpiga och mestadels så åkte vi även med kraftig slagsida. Sofia, som haft feber och sovit dåligt, lyckades trots skumpandet somna :-)

Vi var tvungna att föreviga den bragden.
Till en början såg vi mest mindre fåglar och vattenbufflar men tillslut dök det upp de efterlängtade elefanterna.

Efter det såg vi elefanter vid sju tillfällen till. Chauffören sa att det fanns ca 100 elefanter men ofta såg man ingen och såg man någon så var det endast en stycken.

Dagen var helt perfekt och när vi kom tillbaka till vårt boende så var det mest att äta och sedan slocka och det var den första natten då vi alla sov som stockar.

(Tuesday 24/1)

Breakfast is served until 11am and at 10am they called and wondered if we wanted breakfast and of course we wanted it. In addition to Sofia who had a horrible night with about 387 sneezings and consumed two toilet rolls when sneezing. Sara and I went downstairs to the restaurant, but there was no breakfast, but our table was laid out under a tree near the lake!

What a paradise ! 

 It was set up for three but we informed them that Sofia was sick so we were just two. There was a fantastic breakfast set up where I initially told Sara that this is going to be great and you might lose some kilos with all the fruit and color-pressed juices, but then it came more... Roasted sandwiches, jam and a whole plate of English breakfast (scrambled eggs, beans, sausages, etc). Of course we took some sandwiches with us to Sofia who stayed in the room, but we didn't had to do that. They had already gone up with a tray of breakfast to her when we were eating.  

Sara and I went, after breakfast, to the center with a tuk-tuk from the accommodation to buy antibiotics for Sofia. In the queue of the shop's pharmacy, an elderly man was shown to be the doctor in the community and he asked what we needed and then spoke to the pharmacist exactly what he would pick up. The antibiotic we received cost about SEK 2.90 for a week's treatment. I had read that honey and cinnamon in different combinations would be a great for everything between heaven and earth but only managed to find honey in the store. However, our tuk-tuk driver thought there was cinnamon in the restaurant at our accommodation. When we got back to the accommodation he didn't even go down and ask before the staff knocked at the door and a small container of ground cinnamon was delivered to Sofia.

During the day I was wondering if it was possible to swim in the water outside. There are a lot of water buffalo that seem to be there all day long and that may make the water not so... fresh? At the same time, there are people who go down into the water and herd the water buffalo back and forth. Later I got a view of someone lying and sunbathing on a small grass hill and then I decided not to think more about that.

 

Sara and I took a walk to see the surroundings. We stepped off on smaller forest roads, took us past a path and then onto a new forest road (not driveable by car). Both she and I felt a little that it might not be entirely safe given all the leopards who would happily attack us, elephants who would stomp us down like some ants or water buffalos that would strike and throw us away, all broken in some bush. We turned around but then we met a man on a bike who immediately said that we could continue to walk here. There were no dangerous animals. So we did and later we arrived to the lake we see from the hotel where the water buffalo are. We immediately saw a water buffalo and it saw us. We stood still, it stood still and then it definitely began to move in our direction. We turned immediately because those horns we didn't want any troubles with.

Yesterday we decided to book a full day safari in Yala National Park. That meant departure at 4:30 am this morning.

It is a wonderful service at this place we stay in. When we came down in the middle of the night, at least three people from the accommodation were awake and they had packed a nice breakfast and lunch for us together with a freezer with cold drinks. Safari means going in a jeep but I wonder why the driver is sitting in a cab with windows and we are completely free without any "jump in protection"? We three were very vulnerable as a easy target for any leopards or angry elephants while the driver sat safely in his cabin. It can get crowded in that cabin if we were to squeeze into it aswell!

Once we got into the Safari, I realized that the primary function of the safety belts was not to keep us safe if we were to crash but rather that we would not bounce out of the seats and make us ill. The roads were incredibly bumpy and most of the time we also went with a heavy list. Sofia, who had a fever and slept badly, managed to fall asleep despite the bumping :-) We had to memoralize that feat.
 
Initially, we saw most smaller birds and water buffaloes, but finally the long-awaited elephants appeared.
 

After that we saw elephants on seven occasions. The driver said there were about 100 elephants, but often no one was seen and if you saw someone, it was lucky.

The day was absolutely perfect and when we got back to our accommodation it was mostly eating and for the first night when we all slept like logs.

Det är INTE 13 mil till Tissahamara vilket jag skrev i förra inlägget! Vet inte vart jag hade fått det i från.

Efter en delikat frukost    packade vi ihop och klämde in oss i en taxi.

Innan vi kom ut från Colombo blev det tvärstopp på ett ställe mitt i trafiken. I bredd stod några mopeder, en inklämd cyklist, en tuck-tuck, vår taxi och brevid oss en liten lastbil och allihop som på en rak linje. Strax efter klev det fram  en, milt sagt missnöjd farbror på moped, endast typ 3 mm framför nosen på lastbilen. Hans färdriktining var tvärs över våran. Det där var nog en äkta näradöden upplevelse för den farbrorn.

Vi var inte heller riktigt säkra på att vi skulle komma fram levande.

Under färden på motorvägen fanns en och annan varning varav en skylt var jättestor och varnade för plötsligt neddimpande stora påfåglar!

Vi fick även möte i vår körbana (på motorvägen) vilket bestod av fritt lufsande kor. Jag tror dock inte det hör till vanligheten på motorvägen, dessa hade nog mest kommit fel. Senare dök det upp mer kor på vägarna men då var det inte på motorvägen i alla fall.

Vi åkte utefter kuststräckan där tsunamin år 2004, dödade ca 35 000 männiksor varav ca 40% var barn. Chauffören berättade att folk hade gått ner påstranden när vattnet försann ut flera kilometer och tyckte det var konstigt. Sedan kom ju då vågen tillbaka.   

Resan var totalt på 25 mil och tog 5 timmar trots att chauffören gasade på allt han hade. När vi började närma oss slutmålet svängde chauffören in på den väg vi skulle till och direkt stod en stor skylt med texten Danger. Bara det, inte vad det var som den varnade för utan helt generellt farligt?! Chauffören sa att det gällde elefanter som kunde komma farande ur buskarna på sidorna under kvällar och nätter. Ganska omgående fick vi sakta in för det låg något djur på vägen...
 
 
Precis när jag stänger av filmningen så säger chauffören - "Vi är ju framme!". Appen visade att vi hade nått målet precis där vi var! Härligt! Ungar, här ska vi bo. I ingenstans. Det var ju naturligtvis inte helt korrekt, det förstod vi allihop. Nu gällde det bara att lista ut vart vi skulle. Chauffören ringde vår hyresvärd och tillslut hittade vi dit. Men det var helt omöjligt utan exakt guidning via telefon. Mitt uteftervägen skulle man svänga rakt in i ett buskash (nästan) och sedan var det grusvägar lite kors och tvärs.

Men när vi kom fram var det ett fantastiskt ställe. De mötte upp med svala handdukar och fruktdrinkar.

En underbara plats! Som utsikt från restaurangen hade vi vattenbufflar som låg i en sjö och flöt och diverse fåglar.

Vi avslutade detta dygn med att Sofia blev riktigt ordentligt förkyld med feber och fick en ny omgång av urinvägsinfektion. Alltså en riktig semester

It's NOT 13 miles to Tissahamara which I wrote in the last post! Don't know where I got that from.

After a delicious breakfast   we packed up and squeezed ourselves in a taxi.

Before we got out of Colombo, there was a stop in one place in the middle of the traffic. In width, there were some mopeds, a clamped cyclist, a tuk-tuk, our taxi and next to us a small truck and all on a straight line. Shortly afterwards, a mildly unhappy uncle on the moped emerged, only type 3 mm in front of the nose of the truck. His direction was across ours. That was probably a true near-death experience for that uncle.

We were not really sure that we would come out alive.

During the journey on the highway, there was an occasional warning of which a sign was enormous and warned of sudden downpours of large peacocks!

We also got a meeting in our roadway (on the highway) which consisted of freely flying cows. However, I do not think it belongs to the normal on the highway, these had probably come the wrong way. Later, more cows on the roads dump, but then it was not on the highway in any case.

We went along the coast where the tsunami in 2004 killed about 35,000 people, of which about 40% were children. The driver told us that people had gone down the shore when the water ran out for several kilometers and thought it was strange. Then the wave came.

The trip was a total of 25 miles and took 5 hours despite the driver speeding. When we started to approach the final destination, the driver turned on the road we were going to and a large sign with the text Danger was immediately standing. Just that, not what it was that warned about but quite generally dangerous ?! The driver said it was about elephants who could get out of the bushes on the sides during the evenings and nights. Quite immediately we were slowing in because there was some animal on the road ...
 
Just when I turn off the filming, the driver says - "We are here!". The app showed that we had reached the goal exactly where we were! Lovely! Kids, here we will stay. In nowhere. Of course, that was not entirely correct, we all understood. Now it was just a matter of listing where we were going. The driver called our landlord and finally we found it. But it was completely impossible without exact guidance by phone. My way out would be to turn right into a bushkah (almost) and then there were gravel roads a little cross and across.

But when we arrived it was a great place. They came up with cool towels and fruit drinks.

A wonderful place! As a view from the restaurant we had water buffalo lying in a lake and floating and various birds.

We ended this day with the fact that Sofia got really cold with fever and got a new round of urinary tract infection. So a real normal holiday

Nu har jag farit iväg på en ny resa och denna gång är det SEMESTER och med mina tjejer. Det är det många år sedan sist.

Och vart åker vi då? Ja, eftersom jag har pratat så mycket om "mina" favoritkillar i Sri Lanka så var till och med mina tjejer bestämnda om att de måste få träffa dem.

Väl på Arlande var vi ju förstås hungriga och tjejerna hittade ett bord som vi fick dela med en kvinna som redan satt i kaffeterian. Hon hade bott ca 10 år i Sri Lanka! Vilken lyckträff! Och så mycket fantastiskt hon han berätta innan det var dags att gå på planet. En underbar kvinna och som hade fått för sig att hon gjort sin sista resa för några år sedan i och med att hon fyllt 70. Nu hade hennes vänner och bekanta i Sri Lankabestämt att det var dags att hon åkte ner igen för hon var efterlängtad och saknad. :-) Och det förstår jag, hon var riktigt trevlig att prata med.

Idag fick tjejerna träffa "mina" killar!

Jag var riktigt nervös i och med att ingen visste att vi var på väg samtidigt som de hade bytt kontor och jag inte visste vilket nummer det var på dörren till lägenheten. Men det gick fint ändå, med lite kryptiska meddelande via Slack (typ Skape) till Ashhab på kontoret så lyckades jag få lägenhetsnumret och sedan följde vakten i entren med för att säkerställa att jag inte hade lömska planer. Det var Pradeep som öppnade :-)

Underbara människor, gudarnas vad jag var glad att få träffa dem igen, och nu var det fler personer där än sist.

Förra gången verkade det som att mitt medtagna godis inte föll dem i smaken (djungelvrål) så denna gång tog jag med lakritssnurror (eftersom Ashhab visade bild på dem förra gången och att han tyckte de var goda) och till det lite  polkagris-godis.

Nu i kväll har vi bokat nytt boende via Airbrb i närheten av Yale där en av alla nationalparker finns. Vi måste checka ut från nuvarande lägenhet vid 11 och sedan blir det resa till Tissahamara, ca 13 mil.

Now I have gone on a new journey and this time it is HOLIDAY and with my girls. It is many years ago since that was possible.

And where did we go then? Yes, since I have talked so much about "my" favorite guys in Sri Lanka, even my girls were determined that they must meet them.

Once at Arlanda we were of course hungry and the girls found a table that we had to share with a woman who was already sitting in the cafeteria. She had lived about 10 years in Sri Lanka! What a hit! And so much amazing things she told us before it was time to go on the plane. A wonderful woman and who had realized that she made her last trip a few years ago when she turned 70. She had her friends and acquaintances in Sri Lankan determined that it was time she went down again because she was longed for and missing. :-) And I understand that, she was really nice to talk to.

Today, the girls got to meet "my" guys!

I was really nervous because nobody knew we were going and they had changed offices and I didn't know which number it was on the door to the apartment. But it went fine anyways, with a little cryptic message via Slack (like Skype) to Ashhab in the office, I managed to get the apartment number and then followed the guard at the entrance witch was there to ensure that I did not have bad plans. And Pradeep is the one who decided to open the door. :-)

Wonderful people, God shall know that I was happy to meet them again, and now there were more people there than the last.

The last time it seemed that my included candy did not fall into the taste (Djungelvrål) so this time I took licorice spins (because Ashhab showed them last time and he thought they were good) and also the little candy cane (polkagris) https://polkagris.com/.

We went to a place called Foot Rub where we got pedicure and after that we visited a restaurant in the hotel Cinnamon Red.

This evening we booked our new accommodation via Airbrb near Yale where one of all national parks is located. We have to check out from the current apartment at 11 and then we will travel to Tissahamara, about 13 miles.
